Pastor Mendinghall: E.J., Sr.

Pastor Mendinghall has been the senior pastor of the Charlotte Northeast Seventh-Day Adventist church since 2006.  He began his formal theological education at Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL where he graduated in 1975 with honors, earning a B.A. in Theology.  He immediately entered Andrews Theological Seminary and acquired a Master of Divinity degree.

He began his official pastoral ministry as associate pastor in 1978 at the East Oakland S.D.A. church in Oakland California.   He continued a highly blessed and successful pastorate at several churches in the Pacific Union until 1991, when he received the call to serve as Director of African American ministries for the Pacific Union Conference.  He served in this position for twelve years.

Prior to joining Northeast, Pastor Mendinghall was called to the South Atlantic conference in 2003 to pastor the Ephesus S.D.A. church in Gastonia, NC and the New Life S.D.A. church in Rock Hill, SC.

He is the third of six children born to Vangard and Mary Mendinghall.  The native Charlotte North Carolinian accepted God’s call and joined the Berean S.D.A. church as a teenager.  He served as a non-combatant soldier during the Vietnam conflict and received an honorable discharge after serving God and his country.  He returned home and married his childhood sweetheart, the former Linda Miller, also a native of Charlotte.  She is a graduate of the UCLA School of Nursing with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing and a subspecialty in Neuropsychiatry.  Out of their union have come two children who now live in California:  Tonia Denise, who is mother to their one grandchild, Jeremiah Fountain.  Tonia works as a Quality Services Coordinator for Cedars Sinai Hospital.  Their youngest son, Ezra, Jr. is pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science.
